Deportees is a Swedish band making its debut in 2004. Now they're back with the lead single from their 4th album, and with that a slightly new sound. "Islands & Shores"(both the name of the single and the album) is a fantastic song sounding like a mix between coldplay and the killers with indie influences -and it's bloody brilliant.
This is quite extraordinary I think. Lana Del Rey is a new artist that feels like a mix between Marina & The Diamonds and Bridget Bardot. She mixes 60's glam, surf and hollywood pop. Watch the great music video for "Video Games" from her double-A single "Video Games/Blue Jeans". It will also be available on 7' vinyl for all you retro-fans.
Joe Goddard is one half of the English electronic indie act, Hot Chip. And when you listen to his solo EP "Gabriel" it's hard to not think of them. The difference here is that the music is a bit darker and got a more house oriented sound, without loosing that special indie-feeling though(much thanks to the vocals performed by Valentina).It's my desire that this will become huge and that the general public will take this unique song to their hearts. If I can have my way I want this heartbreaking song to be be this years "With Everyheartbeat".
Here is "Sunbird" by the Nordic duo who identifies themselves as Lenny and Leslie. But hey, don't get mistaken for their names-they are dudes. And their band is called LCTRISC .
The video was directed by Johan Stolpe. "Sunbird" is a fantastic little melancholic jewel with amazing lines like "Your wings are made of black leather, while mine are made of memories".

Here's Sweden's own PB&J. In their new album "Gimme Song," I like their simplicity--the vocals aren't overpowerd by the instruments, and the instruments simply strikes with the vocals. It's just simple drums, bass, guitar.
From this album, I like "Second Chance" but what stands out for me is "Dig a Little Deeper." I just love the drums and then the guitar in the beginning of the song--and throughout it as well.

Former Swedish Idol contestant Tove Styrke is already back with a new material. This time she's been working with Janne Kask and Peter Ågren, who also wrote "White Light Moment" for Tove -a song that was the next most played song on radio this year on Swedish radio.
The Northern Ireland band Snow Patrol is back with a new song and they've got a slightly new approach. The song sounds more indie pop and less alternative rock, which is what they usually do. And the music video it's got dancing in it! And we can't do anything but looove this and urge you to watch the video.
This past month Mika released his first French single called "Elle Me Dit"(=She Tells Me), from his upcoming album "The Origin of Love". Now the video is being released and it's a happy feast with a dancing and singing family, who does just that to the song. French actress Fanny Ardant also makes an appearance in the video. The song has peaked at #6 in French iTunes.
Nicola Roberts, former member of British girlband Girls Aloud, is releasing the video for her fresh new single "Lucky Day". The video is fun and quirky -and so is the song. It's a mix of all kinds of things, it sounds indie, it sounds like 60's pop, and yet a modern dance song in it's production. I was very skeptic about this to begin with and I haven't been that found of Nicola previously, but I do love this. It's a treat. Maybe the dress in the video is a tiny bit too short.... What do u reckon?
Danish singer-songwriter Oh Land is treating us to more of her delicious alternative pop when she release international single #2 from her self titled album. And what a video to accompany -simply exquisite! It got so many elements to it.
If you didn't read or hear about Ellie Goulding last year, you: 1. Missed one of the best albums last year and one hell of a amazing voice. 2.You get another chance here and now as Ellie is releasing a new video for her song "Starry Eyed", that was filmed especially for the US market.
"Starry Eyed" is still as wonderful as the first time I heard it, and the new video is cute and quite beautiful with it's litterly magic moments, Ellie in a knitted hat, a space nebula, and special effects flying around. Check it out.
Our beloved Italian indie popping duo Zero Assoluto is treating us to a wonderful weird world with their new video, "Questa Estate Strana", which means this strange summer. And it is strange alright we're talking about skiing downhill stairs, journalists using ice creams as microphones, a girl eating hay in her living room, an american football player throwing a huge fish during a match and things we can't even describe. But needless to say, this video has to be watched! And the song then? It's a great kinda mellow, chillout track with cutesy melancholic melodies.
I remember enjoying "Backfire at the Disco" and "Let's Dance to the Joy Division." Those are very 2007. The Wombats are now back with their latest, and I'm glad I have a friend who keeps up with all the music around the globe, and also the music I like!

Here's someone from Ireland: Royseven, a six-member band from the Irish capital. Though the band was formed in 2003, they didn't have their first album up until 2006, which was titled "The Art of Insincerity. "
Almost five years later, they are out with their second album "You Say, We Say" in March. Here is the second single from that album "We Should Be Lovers." I should say, quite a catchy song that you'd want to hum along the way.
Kate Bush is back and present her fresh new video for us: 'Deeper Understanding'. The song is the first single from Kate Bush's forthcoming album 'Director's Cut'.
The video is a bit old to say the least. I won't give anything away. Just watch it below if you're a fan of Ms Bush.
Tove Styrke was the runner-up to Swedish Idol last year. And the 18-year old had quite the success with her own album/material since the show ended. The album is a really great according to us and a lot more sophisticated than what you usually get from Idol-alums. The critics has praised her too and compared her to Robyn(and she's also worked with some of Robyn's former collaborators as well).
She's released two singles previously, the aucustic sounding percussion heavy track 'Million Pieces' and the dance number that is 'White Light Moment'. Now with her 3rd single 'High & Low' her label has decided to finance a combining video.
The song is produced by Patrik Berger -who's worked with artists like Robyn and Those Dancing Days(who we've mentioned on this blog before). The video is in black and white and plays a lot with contrasts. Tove is donning different looks which all looks very pretty, and the whole video is made and styled in a way that is reminiscent of her single and album artwork.
Well, not again, very pop, but I thought I really wanted ya'll to listen to this great indie band called Noah and the Whale fro the UK. "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N" is one of my favs from the lads but here is their recent release titled "Give It All Back." And yea, if you're into shows like One Tree Hill and Cougars, you might have just heard them!
